What Is the SMBE Program?

The SMBE Program is the next evolution of Rocky Mountain Power’s energy-saving incentive programs, replacing the old Small Business Enhanced (SBE) program.

While the previous SBE program also offered to cover up to 75% of project costs, it was limited in scope — rebates were capped at $5,000, and eligibility was restricted to truly small businesses. As a result, many industrial and commercial facilities couldn’t benefit.

The new SMBE program removes that cap entirely and broadens eligibility to include medium-sized businesses. Now, as long as your facility qualifies based on power usage (not building size), you could receive uncapped rebates covering up to 75% of your total lighting project — potentially saving tens of thousands of dollars.

Even large facilities — 100,000 sq ft or more — may qualify depending on their energy profile.
